John Carter's Dark Blues side had a morale boosting win in the 90th running of the Major Stanley's XV fixture but then fell heavily to a power-packed Northampton Saints XV. They ended with a record of four wins and six losses in the build-up to the Varsity Match.

Cambridge
Victory over the Steele-Bodger XV gave the Light Blues a timely boost after three successive defeats and they rounded off their 13 game build-up to the Varsity Match with a five try romp over a London Scottish XV. That gave them a record of seven wins and six defeats ahead of the Twickenham clash.
