Robson and Ransom make home debuts as Oxford ease to opening match victory

03 Oct 2018

Oxford opened their 2018/19 Varsity campaign at Iffley Road last night with a comfortable win against Eastern Suburbs. Ex-Harlequins Lock George Robson and London Irish Full-Back Ben Ransom both made their debuts for a strong looking Dark Blues side. After last year’s Varsity Match defeat, both Robson and Ransom bring a lot of experience to an already strong team that already contains a number of Blues including Ex-wasps and 2018 Varsity Captain Dom Waldouck.

Oxford opened the scoring with a well worked catch & drive line-out that resulted in flanker Sam Miller touching down, before a penalty try for collapsing a scrum extended the dark blues lead to 12-0 at half-time. In the Second-half Oxford continued to dominate in most areas and Ryan Jones bagged a brace of tries to take Oxford into an unassailable lead. Eastern Suburb did hit back with a late try of their own, but it didn’t affect the score line as Oxford ran out convincing 24-7 winners.

Oxford will look to secure another victory with the visit of the Pacific Island Barbarians up next on Friday 12th October.
